Overview

The Olson Group, Ltd. (OGL) worked with Boston College to conduct a comprehensive review of the university’s existing emergency management structure, providing recommendations for comprehensive reorganization, including the creation of new reporting structures and management positions.

Following on that task, OGL conducted a comprehensive risk and vulnerability assessment of the school’s three Boston-area campuses, as well as building-specific reviews of the core academic and support structures on the central Chestnut Hill campus.  The assessment was focused on three scenarios: external natural disaster, act of terrorism/violence, and pandemic influenza. This resulted in formal recommendations for planning changes and the introduction of targeted mitigation strategies to address physical and operational vulnerabilities.

The next phase of work involved a detailed review of existing evacuation and sheltering plans, the development of a campus-wide strategy, and the integration of university plans with those of the public safety agencies in the adjacent communities.
