Staff Position Requirements
The Olson Group, Ltd. (OGL) is seeking planning and exercise developers/analysts. These positions support preparedness planning across multiple cities, regions, and the state, as well as all-hazards exercise projects. OGL believes in giving its employees responsibility and is seeking motivated, self-starting personnel; junior selectees can expect to manage projects and lead programs in short order.
Ideal candidates will have a generalist’s interest in areas beyond emergency management and homeland security, including (but not limited to) politics, culture, communications, and international affairs. Unique and relevant life experience is valued.
Position Requirements
- An understanding of emergency management principles, Incident Command System, and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) is required
- Understanding of federal, state, and local government structures and coordination preferred
- B.A. or B.S. in a relevant discipline required, advanced degree preferred
- Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP) and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) desirable
- The ability to multitask and balance multiple projects simultaneously is essential
- Flexibility in schedule, ability to travel
- Position based in Alexandria, Virginia
- Very strong writing and research skills
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Social and traditional media skills desirable
Duties To Be Performed
- Lead or serve as an integral member of one or more teams, providing support for Olson Group contracts, including exercises and planning projects
- Support development, conduct, and evaluation of HSEEP exercises
- Support the development of Mitigation, Comprehensive Emergency Management, Emergency Operations, Continuity of Operations/Government, Recovery, and other plans for public and private sector clients
- Conduct research into project-related problems and solutions
- Develop draft documents for review (meeting minutes, slides, exercise documents, etc.) and update documents to reflect comments and changes
- Provide support for planning meetings and exercise conduct (document production, registration support, etc.)
- Document planning, training, exercise development, and conduct
- Take, edit, and submit planning meeting minutes
- Respond to and fulfill requests from OGL clients
- Miscellaneous/other duties as assigned
Compensation
- Salary: $75,000 – $125,000 depending on qualifications and experience
